Oh wow, I imagine that was a lot to watch all in a row, both emotions-wise and endurance-wise. Did you like one of the three better than the rest? In retrospect, Midnight Mass is my favorite despite me feeling a little mixed on it when I first watched. I also love both the movies you mentioned but especially Oculus, it has such a clever and well-prepared protagonist which is so rare in horror.
I will say that I think some of Midnight Club has flashing/choppy editing, but if I recall it's mostly confined to a few of the stories-in-stories so you'll know when it's going to come up. Can you deal with found footage stuff or is the shaky handheld a problem? I do think a lot of those by virtue of their format are less choppy!
I think when I finally dig into all the Euro TV dramas you've recommended I'll have to start with Babylon Berlin, because I've watched some of the first season (like three times, idk why) and LOVED it. Is Mason Alexander Park fun in Quantum? They're the main reason I wanted to tune in! Also hell yes to both those next shows, I think they're both top 5 of this/last year for me. If you think of any Station Eleven tattoo ideas, I'm in the market for one.
Okay I've been watching Los Espookys and I am fully obsessed! I'm partway through Season 2 and will probably start an immediate rewatch as soon as I'm done. It's SO weird & delightful & chaotic! Every single line that comes out of Julio Torres' or Ana Fabrega's mouth makes me laugh out loud! I am deeply suspicious of Fred Armisen for some reason, but I love everything else about this show so much that I can look past that.
I love this, especially the fact that Armisen seems suspicious, haha. It takes a lot for him to win me over in most roles. I haven't seen Los Espookys yet but I've been wanting to watch it because Julio Torres always makes me laugh. I also know it's a pretty under-the-radar show that folks always worry will get cancelled, so I'll bump it higher up my list to watch now that you've reminded me.
Beautifully written Valerie. You're words are so touching to read. I've been watching the second season of White Lotus. Ep. 5 was super steamy. I still needed a cold shower the next day ;) At the movies I recently watched Glass Onion and The Fabelmans. GO was fun but a step down from Knives Out. Too callous, and more..yawn..wokeness. The Fabelmans on the other hand is sublime. A cinematic mic drop from one of our greatest living directors. It should be heralded as a landmark cinematic events, but I'm afraid not many people are going to see it. To hold an audience completely enraptured for over two hours with such a personal story, sans spandex, cgi, guns, and car chases, seems like a truly God-like talent to me.
